MS10 - Optimal approaches in electrical engineering |
Organized by: Nadia Maïzi (MINES ParisTech) and Vincent Mazauric (Schneider Electric)
Description: A growing requirement both socially and legally for environmentally friendly electrical systems is encouraging higher levels of engineering design innovation. This mini-symposium will pay a special attention on the various time- and space-scales involved to achieve an ever-increasing level of energy efficiency of the whole power system. It will address:
- variational approaches of electromagnetism, especially to provide a relevant decomposition of the losses to cut, and efficient numerical methods;
- device optimization, either for power conversion (motors, alternators, transformers…) or couplings (busways);
- system optimization, regarding to power management issues (reliability, mix-arbitration, competition between sectors…);
- long term planning, including sustainability challenges, CO2 curtailment, reduction in fossil fuel use, policy changes for large scale adoption.
